RATE INCREASE: March 25, 2009
Due to a recent rate increase from Lake of Egypt Water District, the supplier of our water, there will be a rate increase for all customers of Devil's Kitchen Water District. The minimum bill for one thousand gallons or less will increase to $20.00 a increase of $3.00.For each thousand gallons used above that amount will be prorated at a rate of $9.00. The new rate will take effect with your March usage, which will be billed the beginning of April. We would like to also inform you at this time that we have been informed that there may be an additional rate increase from Lake of Egypt in January of 2010. This will most likely mean an additional increase to our customers at that time. With the rising costs of fuel, electricity, materials, and contractor prices, we simply cannot afford to also absorb increasing costs passed on by
our supplier.
Devils Kitchen Water District purchased a new CAT portable genrator to power the pump stations incase of power outages, June 2009.
The District has purchased a new Backhoe, delivered February 4, 2011, for repairs and new services to help keep cost affordable to the customer.

Did You Know?
The Price of Water According to the Illinois Rural Water Association, Technical Assistance Bulletin newsletter, bottled water, in most cases, is not any better than the water being provided by the local pubic water supplies. In fact, it is finally being revealed that a lot of the so-called glacier, polar, spring or whatever else they decide to call their water is actually water from a public water supply.
In comparison with the cost of gasoline at about $2.75 for a gallon and the cheapest bottle of water at 89¢ for a 16 ounce bottle of water, a gallon of water would be $7.12 per gallon. The very water would cost nothing at a fountain if you had a refillable container. If you take the math one step further that would come to a total of $7120.00 per 1000 gallon. Factoring in that the average household will use approximately 3500 gallons of water each month then you would have a monthly water bill of $24,920.00.
